Police, 100%. Although our campus does keep records but relays most of the stuff to our local PD, which I think is the right thing

e: This is near Seattle btw

Our campus has a police department....whose authority is undermined because it has killed a dozen black guys in shady circumstances (tazed to death, strangled in handcuffs while in custody, stuff like that). Sam Dubose was the latest and nobody trusts them at all...the students are even scared of them lol. It is a very urban environment and students are constantly getting held up and having their cell phones, wallets, jewelry taken at gun point if they wander to the wrong place at the wrong time. Like once or twice a day.

During the rush week one of the fraternities hung a banner off their house that read "Anything is a dildo if you're brave enough -- John 3:16". You know that is a house of dudes that will take turns fucking a corpse if they think they can get away with it. If you drive past you see 25 dudes playing cornhole and three bitches there drinking....and I'm just like, well, they know what they're getting into. If you go to college and you're a female, nothing bad is probably going to happen to you during the normal course of social events. If you're a girl and you get involved with "Greek Life" then you're probably going to be sexually assaulted in some way. Studies reflect this. I think the true enemy is "Greek Life" lol. Colleges really invest in it and they're protecting it. I know one of the colleges here, Miami University, is colloquially known as "Rape University" because of how often it happens there...but they're "Ohio's Ivy League School" lol....I know people with degrees from there with 80k debt working shitty jobs with like a BA in communications.

I can tell you one thing, when my wife teaches her class I try my best to be there to pick her up, even if it is in walking distance. A girl in her 20's just needs to be extra careful. Wifey hits the gym a lot and does her cardio, so she strong and can outrun a lot of people I bet.

My college had its own police department. If the "college" was investigating something, it meant the campus police department was investigating, all of whom were ACTUAL police officers who had done actual police officer work other places.

Haha, yeah, that's pretty crazy. I could see how they have their own PD now :P -- We just have the normal "campus security". Guess our campus is pretty fucking laid back compared to what's out there

Worst thing I remember was heavy abuse towards those sikh women that grew beards. I remember some of them had to be escorted to their classes by campus security.

And honestly, when I saw them I cracked a joke with my buddy. However, when I got home I read about it, it really opened my eyes. And our campus was pretty cool after a while because I think a lot of other students did the same thing (since they weren't being escorted anymore). That's what I want to think anyways

Stepping out of your comfort zone a bit and being a little more objective about things is a great way to grow :) College is a lot of peoples first multicultural experience and it can even be life changing. You start to learn that no individual should be attacked over their basic identity.

I'm pretty sure college committees rule on rape stuff non-criminally and dudes generally get a slap on the wrist for it.

40% of colleges don't even investigate rape claims: http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2014/07/09/sexual-assault-universities-column/12382347/

Only 1 in 5 reports of rape are forwarded to the police: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/four-five-acts-campus-sexual-assault-go-unreported-police/

Now rapes themselves are being treated similar to minor crimes like cheating on a test: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/why-arent-we-taking-rape-seriously/article/2562427

I'm pretty sure you're just full of shit again Duffman

Did the person in your OP ever get charged criminally? Did he go to jail? It is because they didn't take the case seriously. It is because there was no criminal investigation. It is because even if a rape did happen, colleges aren't treating them as crimes, rather like the breaking of internal rules.

The best analogy I can think of is this: The Catholic Church is to Pedophiles what American colleges are to Rapists.

I agree that colleges should be barred from investigating rapes because they are criminal and the victim ought to go to an ER, get a rape kit done for evidence, and work with local police.

"This is an internal matter" doesn't work when private organizations are harboring predators.

At least 40% of rape claims are completely bogus according to police officers themselves, too.

According to police officers? Not a statistical argument.

I think that he's unknowingly referring to Kanin's 94 "false rape allegations". Had he actually read it or any of its' critiques he might've been even able to name it. As it is he's just grasping at straws on his crusade of rape apologia and an odd sort of misogyny most likely fueled by deeply seated paranoia and shame.

Regardless - no.
