If the guy who lost his arm, got up and shot the driver - since he was provoked - shouldn't he be allowed his vengeance? Call me crazy, but if a guy is trying to kill you, you should be allowed to stop him.

Wow, what a shitty situation. He should have met the kid in a more crowded/protected area.

A lot of police departments are putting up marked parking spaces at police stations specifically for Craigslist/Kijiji/other type transactions.

wtf do you think juries are?

Lol'd, n1

I'll agree along with everyone that the response for the value of the property stolen can be seen as excessive, but there are provisions in the law that allow people to make an attempt to recover property that was just(I believe there's a time issue of sorts, legally) stolen from them, so I don't agree with an attempted murder charge at all.

I'm partially inclined to agree with you, but that driver has interests he has a right to defend beyond his own self-preservation. He's unarmed against an armed assailant who just committed a felony.

So how far do you go with this? "We'll I understand your position but I have an interest I have a right to defend..." Is it just once someone commits a felony (and you'll have to know all the legal caveats) that it's A-OK to proceed with deadly force? Or is it anytime anyone harms your interests?

We live in a society ffs. You can't just turn around and kill someone because they stole $400 from you. You're advocating for some weird system where people execute one another for percieved slights. Seriously, if anyone steals $400 from you, let me know, I'll give you $400, it's nothing.

I've already agreed the response could be argued to be excessive, I just don't agree with a straight up attempted murder charge here on account of the kid, anymore than I would agree about an assault charge had the guy simply tackled him after the stickup. I'm also not 'advocating' for anything, but merely opposing a particular legal outcome in this case due to mitigating circumstances.
