what do you hope to prevent by not permitting spouses to hold office that would not happen with allowing their children to hold the same position?

...the conflict and doubt over of who is really in charge , who is making the final decisions . The husband/wife bond is different than all others .

Republican emasculation seems to be the running trend. Oh wait, you said downside? I thought you meant benefits. My apologies. B)

Can't use the PMS argument because chances are they'll have hit menopause already.
Hmm... I know! The thermostat will be broken from constant temperature changes. There, found one.

Instead of people throwing shoes at the president, the president will be throwing shoes at people. This one will be on the fence.

Respect is given where exceptions exist, unfortunately not too many do, so we can't judge the group as a whole by the 1% of women who can play with the big boys.

The real truth is most people can't lead, it just so happens more men can than women, out of the people who can.

I'd venture Hillary is way past worrying about t that problem ever again Let's just hope the hot flashes are over as well, otherwise I motion that the President if they happen to be experiencing menopause while in office they MUST receive hormone therapy...please but Hilly oughta be way past needing them as well

the logical thing to do if this were a problem would be to not permit a married person to hold the office in the first place

If you can't handle the responsibility of fatherhood and being a good husband then you don't deserve to be in office to begin with.

You think a parent has no influence over a child?

Of course they do, their genetics are coursing through them and most of their personality, physical, mental, and emotional traits are decided at birth by this.

Their upbringing has a small effect on their outcome I guess too but it doesn't change things in the big picture, children will always be the ultimate product of their parents.

 seems we both were thinking the same  I like the thermostat part.

Scaly to give your question a proper answer, it will be interesting I think. Obama had some tough crackers here at home that were hate filled just because of his color, but on the foreign scene being African American really wasn't a big hurdle for him to clear. Hilary won't have the race issue, but some of the same cracker types that think a set of balls act as a rudder, and without them a person just wanders aimlessly about. plus she would have more trouble with some leaders overseas.

But imho the president is really kind of like a show pony anyway, with teams working on this and that and then handing over the speech to read to the people. I know I over simplify just roll with it please no lesson on the president's duties. The gist of what I'm trying to say is the vice president, delegates, and key cabinet members are usually the ones who broker deals anyway, let them deal with the pigs.
