Something to it. Freud would say that we suppress so much of our animal nature that we all become neurotic, and this is all because we forced to act civilized under the social contract. This explains why from time to time societies will go all out and try to destroy one another, because war is a major focus of this energy. It is like we allow ourselves to be animal enough to different people so that we can continue being civilized to our similar neighbors. That is a Freudian idea, anyway. I for one think Freud is one of the greats.
