you have never read the bible obviously

Just like Huck Finn shouldn't be banned cause it says nigger and The Catcher in the Rye shouldn't be banned because it's sexually explicit.

To compare these or the Bible to Playboy is moronic, Playboy has no literary merit and consists primarily of pornographic images.

What are you talking about? It's practically an economics text book! Sex sells, and ad placement!

"I noticed that he has a book — a religious book in the classroom. He’s not permitted to read those books in my classroom."

- The teacher

A. it seems the students were allowed to choose the books they read for the curriculum.
b. there is no reason offered other than it being a religious book.

This is religious discrimination.

Maybe. But where did you get A from? It was an accelerated reading program so there should have just been a list to choose from. From the teachers quote there obviously weren't religious books as options. Not permitting the reading would be wrong if the teacher had free reading time in her class. If she did not then she is right.

from the teachers quote it is pretty cut and dry religious discrimination

"I noticed that he has a book — a religious book in the classroom. He’s not permitted to read those books in my classroom."

as far as A. it seems the accelerated reading program is just that, the students get to read a book of their choice.

the situation seems to be that the children were allowed to read any book of their choice and the sole reason for the banning is that it was a religious book.

if there was more reasoning beyond it being a religious book then it would be a different story, such as if the teacher had assigned specific books or a specific genre for the class and the bible didn't fit.

all in all it dosnt seem that much different than going to get lunch at a diner and being refused service soely based on your skin color.

the teacher needs to be fired and the school sued for religious discrimination.

Agree . But the firing and suing is just you being inflamed because you are a Christian and you're angry about something that discriminates against a fellow Christian .

School board has clarified it for all and I doubt it will ever happen again .

Case closed.

For reference he can read the book during recess , lunch and free time . The teacher decides course acceptable material . If the teacher decides that classroom time is not appropriate time to be doing your religious studies ... Then it's not an appropriate time for it .

if a black person is refused service at a lunch counter, if they do not take action against the lunch counter what is to stop it from happeneing again? what is to stop the African American from being seen as weak and steped back into slavery if not for the right to use the American legal system to ensure that those who might discriminate against people based on their gender, religion, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation do not do so with out fair punishment?

If the teacher wants to ban a book in his/her classroom so be it. Who cares. If I was a teacher I would want some type of authority. If that gets the teacher off, better than going deep inside a student..
