Took me 7 hours to copy all the data back the the 2TB hard drive. 1.405TB of data.

Probably cause it really doesn't matter if you're from... Texas. :)

When a hard drive has spent all day in a truck and you bring it into a warm house, you should let it come to room temperature slowly. This will prevent condensation from forming inside the hard drive. Even microscopic particles of moisture can cause the heads to crash.

If in extremely cold weather, like -20 or -30F below zero, the lubricant can thicken or freeze, which will cause the hard drive to operate more slowly than it should. This can ofc corrupt the data you are moving to the drive.

rub it on the carpet really fast to warm it up and dry off any moisture on the fabric of carpet

solved

Condensation on the inside. And yeah, I'm sure the static electricity would help speed the drying. Lol

Nah, whack it on something hard like wood or metal to fling the moisture off. You'll be surprised how easily it splatters off into the direction you're swinging it.

Peasants...

https://www.pcworld.com/article/210199/how_to_protect_hard_drives_against_cold_weather_hazards.html

Quote
"A hard drive can exist perfectly well in extremely cold temperatures in a nonoperational state," he says. "The issue is when it is made operational -- or spun up. The real problems we see in data recovery is the lack of awareness people have when it comes to taking a storage device that has been in an extremely cold environment and plugging it in and firing it up. That is where the window of failure opportunity exists."

How bad can that failure be?

"It can result in a catastrophic head crash," warns Bross. "You are dealing with very tight tolerances in a hard drive, and a drive that is very cold can go through some -- even very small -- contraction of components."

At these very tight tolerances, even a tiny contraction of materials can be a disaster. "If that cold drive is spun up, contact can occur between the heads and platter," says Bross.
