I have personally rode in an on-duty squad car with a smoking pot pipe on the dash. Is it really so hard to believe that a bunch of people immersed in dealing with the worst elements of society are prone to falling in with them?

*legal system. Not justice.

...semantics don't work on me . Do all court facilities that have names like " Podunk Justice Center " have to change their names to " Podunk Legal Center " ? The warrants are issued by the courts through the legal system in the pursuit of justice .

I didn't say the whole population, you did. You also dodged whether you considered the possibility that police who are regularly exposed to the drug trade might use their power to benefit from it. Never heard of the mob hiring police officers to inform on police activities?

There's an important distinction, and waging a military style war on what is best described as a medical problem is not the pursuit of justice. But it is "legal."

Psychologically speaking he is right, the environment in which you spend most of the time eventually conquers you.

And you are generalising the same way he does, but in a different direction, asuming all the cops are legit.

Profit? Who's profiting right now? Arms makers and police payrolls. I think I'd rather my tax money go towards some clinics and social workers.

We could do more for society by bringing sunlight into the world of drugs and ostracizing those who choose to use them.

Good luck changing it, any attempt to do so will encounter opposition from people like Widow saying "Candidate so and so is soft on crime!"

Well sure, anybody running for office would demagogue that line to death. The only way to defeat it is to show people real-world data that says crime falls. If anything, the status quo is soft on crime from the standpoint of failing to reduce it.
