I've not read many books with elves/dwarves/etc. but Eragon is my all-time favorite book, so I can suggest some others that I really enjoyed in the YA Fantasy genre.

Ranger's Apprentice series
Percy Jackson - if you haven't read them yet, they're pretty good

can you suggest any with a female narrator for the audio book? usually applies to books with a female main character.

Dunno who narrates Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, but it has a female main character. And it's very good.

apparently it's a male narrator, and from the sample he doesn't sound all that interesting

Hunger Games might be female narrated, if you haven't already read them.
I've heard some pretty good things about the Graceling series.
In high school, a lot of people were talking about the City of Bones series.

The hunger games audio books do have a female narrator, however a lot off ppl think she didn't fit the part well. I felt the same at first but she sort of grew on me by the end. The divergent series also has a female narrator, and so does the twilight and immortal instruments series.
