Miles Davis truly did not give a single fuck

He was kind of an asshole to be honest, and as far as fashion he really gave a fuck, lol, he had a hairdresser and got all that atrocious shit he wore custom and from expensive fashion "artists" lol.

His looks in the beginning I won't argue with, but Jesus Christ what a trainwreck near the end.

I finally finished Miles' autobiography!

Ultimately, I find he may be one of my favorite musicians of all-time, I absolutely love the way he plays and have enjoyed just about every album of his I've heard and he really helped me get into jazz but as a person I don't think I'd like him, he treated women like shit and exploited them, was a piece of shit druggy on and off for decades, was a fucking racist and an elitist, if you ask me, etc., etc.

There is of course a detachment of the individual and their work, thankfully, and I have the impression his music is worthwhile and will stand the test of time but who he was and his views are not something all that remarkable.

TuTu let me down. His trumpet playing was pretty good but I didn't like the rest of it on most of the tracks, too "80's sounding". Shitty critique, I know, but God damn that decade was just a sinkhole, the sound that came out of it is easily my least favorite of any decade. Certain artists and a few styles managed to come out but the sound, that synth-drenched sound that instantly makes you think of 80's music is almost nauseating to me.

Badass album cover though.

I don't think so, what signified 80's popmusic was innovations in production and recording technique that noone knew how to properly take advantage of so many records end up sounding the way you described it, "too 80's sounding" just something off about the production.
Anyway I think one of Miles signature moves was move popular music forward by using it as a base and do something innovative with it, I don't like much of his late output but that's probably because I don't like the popular music of those times either so I don't really blame him for it.

I haven't heard all but if I have to pick a fav amongst his later stuff i'd go with Aura I think.

You think it was the production? I think a lot of 80's production was stellar, I just think what they were making was shit.

Look at some of the big songs, like "Jump" by Van Halen, hair metal from the Sunset Strip, 80's Bob Dylan, all that shit, everything that went through the 80's was just a sludge factory, all that slick, vacant bullshit just makes me feel queasy when I hear it, I don't know what it is.

Of course Disco and Hairmetal was not the creative routes I would have prefered so that's part of the problem but I also do think that many things sounds bad including Miles albums they sound sterile and overpolished to me.
I think Tracy Chapman selftitled is a five star album in the sense that i've played it a ton of tons and still enjoy it but there's something off about the overall sound of the album, the songs are great but the production and the comp is meh... if it was realsed today it would probably be way better.
