I won't be making any 99 pushes again unless we get some support from Blizzard/Microsoft or whoever ends up taking over. The entire game is absolutely infested with bots and hackers and the current meta is one of the worst in the history of D2. I hope the Microsoft buyout makes a difference but I'm not holding my breath.
Obviously bots and hackers should be banned but my proposed solution for the meta is this:
Change the experience calculation formula so that it makes no difference how many players are in an area, only so that the total players in the game affect the calculation.
You can see here how the calculation works with the most significant figures being the 8/8 at 1.93x and 8/1 at 4.50x.
I would suggest a figure that is slightly higher than 1.93x to take over. Maybe 2.25x or so.
A lot of people wouldn't like this because of the obvious downsides of solo XP in full games becoming meaningless, however, consider the upsides:
- Leveling to 99 would take exactly twice as long as it currently does which would extend the life of the season and also find a good middle ground for the old method of leveling to 99 vs. the new method of 99ing in a week or less.
- It would encourage teamwork and cooperation (imagine that in an online PvE game)
- There would still be incentive in full games for soloing certain areas for MFing so that there is no competition for the loot
- It would completely eliminate the efficiency of autoloading 7 multiboxes while the player uses their main account to gain XP in the terror zone at maximum efficiency. It would become more efficient to play with actual players to help clear faster and more safely.
There may be more I haven't thought of but it doesn't matter anyway because no one works at Blizzard.
I'll also add this: You could still make this change only and exclusively apply to terror zones and keep the old calculation for the rest of the game so that people could still solo chaos and solo/duo baal runs up until 95-96 with comparable efficiency to running terror zones with a full party.
I'm not sure how complicated this would be to code but I dare say that it may be as simple as changing a number somewhere in the game's code, but I have no idea.
One last thing: you also don't absolutely have to completely equalize the calculations, you could just adjust them.
For example, 8/8 is currently 1.93x and 8/1 is 4.5x. Just bring 8/1 down to about 2.5x and adjust the other values in accordance with that, i.e 7/1 = 2.45x, 6/1 = 2.4x, 5/1 = 2.35x, etc.
None of these figures necessarily have to be the final value, I'm just using them as examples/suggestions.
