What do you think is a realistic package for Duchene?
I imagine Colorado is asking something along the lines of Roster Player + 1st Rounder + Prospect for Duchene.
As an Oiler fan you'd hope Maroon knows his place/worth is very dependent on being on Connors wing. But there certainly is no reason Maroon and his agent might not come asking for money based on what they've seen the Oilers sign Lucic/McDavid/Draisatl for. Imagine if Maroon signs for $6M, Oilers could be in cap trouble real quick @___@
The speculation has always been good young D + good prospect + a high pick
I can see why it would be hard for us to meet that price, both in terms that it's very expensive for a player who only has 2 seasons left on contract, and for the fact that it could "empty our cupboards" for the future.
Claesson and Ceci are probably the 2 that would most fit the good young D criteria, and right now I'm sure we're not really comfortable giving up either. Definitely not Chabot, so I'm thinking this is where the deal is getting stuck
As for prospects, honestly we have no shortage of very NHL capable prospects which we can package without even a mention of White/Chabot. Logan Brown is a name that would surely come up and I personally would feel very uncomfortable moving him, but I also know the abilities of Duchene so I think it might come to that.
As for picks, well I'm thinking our 2018 first would be an automatic for this trade, which should be fine considering a trade for Duchene would ideally mean that it ends up a very late first round pick
But a guy like Karlsson doesn't come around very often, I think if we don't go all-in and try to win the cup while we have this guy on our roster, it would be absolutely ludicrous. Losing Macarthur now, Brassard will probably miss a couple of weeks at least to begin the season, White is out for 6 weeks. Adding Duchene would help soothe some of the injury problems and push us to insane centre depth once everyone returns
