If maroon gets 6. He'll be traded asap.
Like you've mentioned. He's the player he is today because of who he's playing with. And I'm sure he'd like to stick around and continue being "the guy" that plays with mcdavid. We will see.

3mill he has earned though....but I'm no expert.

To be honest, not sure anybody would be trading for maroon at a 6m cap hit, without the oilers retaining salary.

What do you think is a realistic package for Duchene?

I imagine Colorado is asking something along the lines of Roster Player + 1st Rounder + Prospect for Duchene.

As an Oiler fan you'd hope Maroon knows his place/worth is very dependent on being on Connors wing. But there certainly is no reason Maroon and his agent might not come asking for money based on what they've seen the Oilers sign Lucic/McDavid/Draisatl for. Imagine if Maroon signs for $6M, Oilers could be in cap trouble real quick @___@

they want a dman

The speculation has always been good young D + good prospect + a high pick

I can see why it would be hard for us to meet that price, both in terms that it's very expensive for a player who only has 2 seasons left on contract, and for the fact that it could "empty our cupboards" for the future.

Claesson and Ceci are probably the 2 that would most fit the good young D criteria, and right now I'm sure we're not really comfortable giving up either. Definitely not Chabot, so I'm thinking this is where the deal is getting stuck

As for prospects, honestly we have no shortage of very NHL capable prospects which we can package without even a mention of White/Chabot. Logan Brown is a name that would surely come up and I personally would feel very uncomfortable moving him, but I also know the abilities of Duchene so I think it might come to that.

As for picks, well I'm thinking our 2018 first would be an automatic for this trade, which should be fine considering a trade for Duchene would ideally mean that it ends up a very late first round pick

But a guy like Karlsson doesn't come around very often, I think if we don't go all-in and try to win the cup while we have this guy on our roster, it would be absolutely ludicrous. Losing Macarthur now, Brassard will probably miss a couple of weeks at least to begin the season, White is out for 6 weeks. Adding Duchene would help soothe some of the injury problems and push us to insane centre depth once everyone returns

You gotta think his contract will be closer to $4-5M. It's a slippery slope when you start overpaying for guys. Maroon could easily argue he's more important to the Oilers than Lucic, and ask why Lucic deserves $7M. While I doubt it happens, sometimes players' agents have a way of convincing a player to worry about the money first.

Sens are not like the Habs, we have been developing well and not been trading everything away

If the price from Maroons side is more than 3 mil oilers pretty much have to let him walk. If by chance they extend him at more than 3 mil its a pretty good indication the organization decided Maroon over Lucic and 27 will be moved in off season.

e: nvr mind lucic has nmc. Highly unlikely Maroon is an oiler next year. He's not gonna pass on his UFA chance to get a big payday

Yes I agree. Anything over 3 he walks. Signs elsewhere for 4-5. Gets shown he's not as good as first thought of and fizzles out.

I'm sure he's aware of that. All depends what his agent brainwashes him with

Yup , just gotta hope he values getting carried to 5mil stats and paid 3 while actually contributing to something > getting paid 5 mil and being sat / bought out for putting up 10 points a year wherever he signed.
