In todays world, a group of unelected elites can collaborate to ban people from social media, fire them, and destroy their lives in a very efficient manner by controlling the corporate world. As they move in lockstep with increasing speed on their policy goals, they are, in effect, the government. They have more power and far fewer restraints than washington. If you want to jail someone for a crime thru the government, youve to go thru years of courts, trials, appeals, etc. if these corporations want to effectively jail you by stripping you of social media , shutting off access and destroying your life, they can do it before breakfast.

In todays world, we could get together and spend years debating gun rights and enshrine new rights for all to own guns in the constitution. The next morning, a group of corporate elites could collaborate to all stop selling guns, and ban people who sell them from social media as well as anyone who bought a gun, and corporations would actually set policy by doing this and win the gun debate and get them banned regardless of your vote. Because your vote means less and less every day in a world run by corporations.

thats bullshit. if facebook/twitter/youtube/instagram banned anyone who bought a gun, these people would easily constitute a critical mass for new, rivaling social networks to emerge.

I agree, however, with the point that a small group of unelected persons can define what to tolerate and what to ban for on social media and therefore has an undue and uncontrollable power over the direction of the public debate.

Believe it or not the average person world wide could not care less about guns, i doubt banning gun nuts would have a huge effect on facebook besides a short term share price drop.
