Yes they picked up a D. But he ain't it unfortunately. It's another warm body to shuffle around the 2nd and 3rd pairing

Toronto needs a real 1st pairing that shuts down with little mistakes and just plays consistent defensive

Too much money wrapped up in marner, tavares, nylander, matthews etc. the leafs are just built wrong. They have like 69% of the cap tied up in forwards. You can easily see where they are going wrong if you contrast the leafs 69% with recent cup winners like colorado (51%), vegas (46% or 57% if you count stone who is on ir) and tampa (56%). If they really want to win, they need to spend more on defense rather than star forwards and then barely cobble a defense together.

Excellent deadline for the Avs, rounded out their team very well and they may not even be done.

Just looking at the roster: Mitts, Walker, Trenin & Duhaime in for only Byram & Johansen out is a nice upgrade.

Rumor was Dubas wanted quality over quantity for Guentzel, he definitely did not get what he wanted. Aggregate value is probably there but no impact piece, albeit Koivunen looks like a solid prospect (better than anyone Canucks were willing to offer probably).
