i dont think they hang aroubd a specific specie of plant, so you cant spot them unless you are naked.

lime has been tearing up the north east usa i hear. but it seems to be isolated to that area

yeah man, it's getting pretty bad. I'm in New Jersey and the tri-state area is getting hammered.

Ticks aren't too bad where I'm at this year.

Few times mushrooming I've had 50+ on me at once years ago.

Or times where you had to stop every 30 seconds and pull off 5 or 6 making their way up your shoes and pants.

Avoid weeds, especially big fields of them. Areas with pricker weeds and various other kinds growing wild.

Lots of ticks this summer, more then I've ever seen before. Any tips on avoiding/spotting them while on a hike/in a field?

If they are real bad, I'll put rubber bands around the bottom of my pant legs, or tuck my pants into my socks so the ticks can't get in that way from the bottom. Ticks hang out on vegetation and wait for something to walk by and brush up against them and then they attach and try to find a spot to eat. If they cant crawl up your pant legs they have to crawl outside your pants which makes them easier to spot and remove. You should avoid thick areas and walk in the center of trails to avoid coming into contact with them. You can buy stuff called permethrin that kill ticks. Permethrin can be used to treat boots, clothing and camping gear and remains protective through several washings. Use an insect repellent that has DEET to keep them off your skin. Hopefully this helps you out.

Looking for a knife that can do it all. Trying to keep it under $200.

Depends on what your definition of do it all is, but I have a kershaw with changeable blades thats really nice. It has a saw blade, a hunting/gutting blade, and a filet blade. I think I gave around 120-140 for it I forget. I usually carry that and a Gerber Multi tool and can take care of about anything I run into.
