Success of potential attack depends entirely in America's ability to keep Hormuz open.
It is not simple as launch an airstrike and then gtfo.
Ships will fall under attack from small explosive speed boats and land to sea missiles which are both mobile and hard to detect / destroy.
The fleet will likely have to escort oil tankers and minesweepers for months at least, in a hostile high risk environment.
Actually the US fleet is most efficient in wide oceans. The Persian gulf isn't an ideal place for the fleet to get entangled in.
Finally remember, pure military casualties mean nothing.
If Iran sinks 1-2 big ships with a lot of crew on them, they will win the war through with the weapon of public opinion.

the subsequent resistance will only kill a few thousand americans over the next several years ( barring some major weapon being gained and used )

They would have no air force whatsoever since ours can shoot them down without them knowing ours is even there. On the ground our troops would have close air support. That alone wins battles, bar the fact that our infantry is much much better trained, stronger faster better educated, better equipped. The lists goes on and on. We would jam any communications they could attempt and for fucks sake what are you people thinking? Too much fucking call of duty.

If you thought Afghan or Iraq were boundless mires when troops would be bogged down against a hostile populace filled with insurgents and IEDs, they aren't even a scratch against the hellhole that would be Iran.
When the conventional militaries clashed, we would take losses, and destroy their army. And then our ground forces would be massacred in urban combat and a war of attrition as we seek to "liberate" them.
Iraq? Hell, a good chunk of the Iraqis actually like us. The Iranians sure as fuck do not. Fighting homemade IED's and hajjis with AK-47's? Iran is armed to the teeth with modern weaponry and explosives and mines and traps.

It would be a war to make Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan all wrapped up in one look like a cakewalk.


And whats supposed to be your other option, use "precision air strikes" on Iranian nuclear facilities that are a mile underneath a mountain?
Nothing short of atomic weapons, tactical nuclear bunker busters, will do any damage to them. It would take months of ground operations to seize them conventionally.
So what are you advocating? Throw away the lives of a million Iranians and a couple hundred thousand of our kids, or are you saying that we should drop nukes on them?
I'm sure China and Russia are listening intently to your answer on that.

First of all, why don't you please defect to Iran so that your country can censor your internet and keep you from posting here.
Now, you have no idea what a counterinsurgency is like, and the only reason it has been mildly effective against american forces is because of their commitment to protect civilians in iraq and afghanistan. In Iran, where there would be less constraining roe then ieds and ambushes would have a much smaller chance of being effective. America has ten years of practice fighting a counterinsurgency, iran currently has zero years practice being one. And the more of the Iranians chose to fight, the easier it would be to identify threats and deal with them. In ANY straightforward conflict between Iranians and Americans the Iranians will die.

Of course you don't believe it, nothing can stop the muslim people in your stupid brainwashed head. Please go put on a suicide vest somewhere if you think islam is so great.
