dex does not do that.

dex only increases attack speed to 40. tested.

Benny and a few others have done a few tests on this and this is no longer the case....when version 2 first came out, that was correct, but it seems Paul changed this somewhere along the road

yup

How much dex/str for my melee char?
Strength helps offense only, while dexterity helps both offense and defense but to a smaller degree.
- Chars that can wear heavy armors and will tank should aim for balance, i.e. 120++str/120dex
- Robed chars can't tank anyway, so they don't need dex for defense --> go for 100% strength

What do you think about the *as much str as EE* thing?

well, they are actually talking about the same thing, but have different definitions for "diminishing returns" which has led to this huge argument. the problem is that jb is talking about absolute damage while coolbreeze is talking about percentages.

example:
same weapon, but two setups, one of which has 100 str and the other has 200 str.

let's say you have 100 strength and do 200 damage on average. if you add 10 more strength, it gives you about 10 more damage on average, or about 5% more damage on top of the 200 damage you already do.

ok, now say you have 200 strength and do 300 damage on average. if you add 10 more strength, it also gives you 10 more damage on average (because the weapon is the same), but this is only 3% more damage on top of the 200 damage you already do.

jb is saying that strength doesn't have diminishing returns because it adds the same amount of damage whether you are at 100 str or 200 str.

coolbreeze is saying that it does have diminishing returns because adding strength when you are 200 str increases your damage by a smaller percentage than when you are at 100 str.

the real question is, how many swings on average does it take to kill a monster?, in which case coolbreeze is right, the effects of str are diminishing.
