Scotland has a unique mixed legal system in Europe, based on the dual basis of civil law in line with the Code of Justinian and recent common law. The Scottish system is comparable in particular to South African law.

I will not push on it, but i hope it helps.

this should have close the topic lol

You know what the history of scotland, the european legal system, the code of justinian and common law and south african law all have in common? A total lack of protection of free expression
Justinian I for example was a reformer who wanted to make the legal system uniform and more unbiased, to protect against false charges and exploitation while also protecting victims and the vulnerable and punishing offenders and in particular protecting children and providing free state run social services and welfare. And he also persecuted the jews, banned paganism on penalty of death and called for inquisitions to hunt down secret pagan worshippers, destroyed idols and crushed foreign worshipers at the peripheries of the empire. The norm was a total and relentless persecution and obliteration of anyone who dared to opposed the orthodoxy, and that ruled for most european history, whatever the orthodoxy happened to be at the time.

America was founded on the central tenet of liberty. That anyone can worship as they want, anyone can voice their political dissent, anyone can declare their hatred or intolerance or opposition or sincere beliefs. And that's been challenged throughout American history and the efforts to erode it rebuffed. America transplanted this ideal onto Europe and you lot never took it to heart

I told you already, this sounds good on paper.
There exist many successful societies in the world which maximize a different objective. For example, the Asian communities prioritize social cohesion and the feeling of harmony. Your individual freedom is not as important in these societies., because common good takes the top spot.

Try to understand there exist viable alternatives before you start looking down on others. The individualistic US way is not the only way.

Also, it is the French Enlightenment philosophers like Rousseau, Montesqiueu and Voltaire who first started with the core principles which got later adopted and transformed by the US founding fathers.

So your claim that the idea of freedom is a US thing is also wrong.

The first and only government to be founded upon personal liberty. Something the French most certainly were not.
Its quite simple, if other countries embrace tyranny and restriction of liberties and authoritarianism, those countries are wrong and its self-evident.

What a joke, american system is shit. If you want a clear explanation: some countries can properly handle the kind of laws we are talking about. Typically: European countries.

The idea appears sound, but you guys need to work on the implementation.

Some degree of concern for other people while exercising your personal freedom - this appears to function fairly well here in Europe.

According to the article, you are still allowed to post and discuss your beliefs under the new law. Apparently you can't try to harm others in the process. Is it so bad?

Is it not so bad. It is however a huge waste of resources and time.
Yes it could help to punish people genuinely attacking vulnerable groups. Will it deter that kind of behaviour? Yes and no.

This kind of politics has become far too prevalent at a time where Scottish people want a clear plan from the SNP about public services, infrastructure and what an independent Scotland could look like.

Instead they are pissing a huge majority up the wall by being sucked into identity politics by a minority of vigilant left wing people.

Edinburgh University has a similar problem with extreme left leaning and so called liberal students. That the majority of do not even come from Scotland but come from England or Europe.

Scottish justice and Scots law is among the best and most robust in the world.
Scottish values are based on liberty, modesty and common sense.
This kind of self gratifying identity politics is not representative of Scottish society it is a reaction to a tiny minority of radicalised foreign (and Scottish) students and young people that lack self awareness on any level and do not have sufficient life experience to be taken seriously.

Didn't you guys kill everyone there, steal their land and then start mass importing different colored people to do your manual labor for free?

Jesus christ America is so doomed lol, the amount of seemingly educated people that still believe WW2 level propaganda about how "HYUCK HYUCK WERE DA GOOD GUYS!"
