Although many people have disagreed with me about this over the years....the truth of the matter is that people as young as 12-13 can begin lifting weights (light weights with very good form under proper supervision).

I would recommend working out starting at 13 years old and not doing anything too difficult to get 15-20 reps on until you're 15-16 years old. Then start working down to 8-12 reps weight....and finally by the time you're 18-19 you should be able to do full maxes (1-2 reps of a maximum weight)

No this is not true, in fact exercises such as the squat have the potential to stimulate growth hormone... when you have to start worrying is if you injury yourself lifting through poor form (ie. injurying the growth plates)

not to bad for only 21 i'm 19 i weigh like 130 atm my pb for the bench press is was 285 (and i weighd 136 at the time)And i'm also too a short guy. 5'6" and my pb parallel squat is 325 No idea what my dead lift is but i'm sure it's low cuz i haven't done them in atleast 6-7 months. And i dont have access to leg press. I've done them with 4 plates on each side for 5-6 reps then again i'm a small guy Bodybuilder2007 is actually a bad name should have read more like powerlifter2007 oh well. Well i think that's awsome that you're an issa Cert. Trainer.. I was going to do the same but instead i'm joining the air force. Going to master in Criminal Justice When i get out and hopefully become a detective after i'm a police officer. Or FBI. Not 100% on that.

vouch - this is correct Killerbboy =)

some doctors disagree but the truth is the truth, more growth hormone + more testosterone = more height between the ages of 0-21. However it's probably only safe to start lifting around 12-13...no earlier than that I would say...however there is a kid out there who's a budybuilder and martial artist at the age of 9 I believe? He's a strange case. Anyway, Only through injury can you stun growth, as long as you lift correctly, and with higher reps (lower weight) and avoid strain and injury, you will grow taller than before =)

hey there -

keep up the good work!

8 total plates on the leg press = 550 lbs (if using a 45 degree sled which adds 100 lbs to the plates weight)
when I did the 1,400 x 2 there were a total of 28 45's total....14 on each side, then 4 10 lb weights (1 on each rack, 2 racks on each side)
so basically it looked like this, 1 rack 7 45's and a 10 with 4 total racks.

The reason leg press is so much better than my squat has to do with my knees...at extreme weights, squats feel like my knees are going to explode...but thats what I get for being a catcher in baseball for 10 years without knee-savers =\

Good luck!

I'm guessing you're referencing that "little hercules" or whatever.

However, why 12-13? Waiting for stage 1 of puberty? There's a well documented case in football where a player named Todd Marinovich was groomed from before birth to be an NFL star. He was a QB and was selected in the first round. Now, the father has been grooming another son. He's about 18 or whatever and he was trained from about the age of 3 I think it was. He has been on a diet and exercise program his whole life.

Why bring up this story? He's been lifting since like 5 or something and he's now playing for Syracuse. Name's Mikhail Marinovich.

hey there - the reason I said 12-13 is because that's a fairly safe age to make personal judgement calls including whether to lift weights or not. Having a small child lift weights is kind of eliminating their aspect of choice from the matter which can have deliterious effects. I speak from personal experience when I say 12-13 is a good age to begin. There are always exceptions to the rule...but generally speaking that age should be about right =)

Ah, was wondering if it was a psychological or physiological thing.
