I'm going to rank and give a quick analysis of some of the top talents per position in this year's draft. I am going to make a new thread for each position and will keep old threads listed in each new thread.
Keep in mind, this is purely my opinions. I am not saying this will be the order, this will be how players turn out or anything along those lines, it's just simply my own personal thoughts.
If you'd like a specific position to be done next, feel free to post, I don't mind jumping around. If not, I'll go in order (QB, WR, RB, TE, OT, etc...)
Defensive Tackles/Nose Tackles:1) Star Lotulelei, DT/NT, Utah – Star is extremely versatile, able to play DT in a 4-3 and NT or DE in a 3-4. Star can stop the run, has a great motor, speed, strength and size. He will be a defensive force in this league for years to come. Star will do well no matter what system he is in or what position he is asked to play.
2) Johnathan Hankins, DT/NT, Ohio State – Hankins is a massive run stuffer and can disrupt the pass as well. He’s not the fastest of guys but he makes up for it with his great strength. Hankins will be best in a 4-3 system.
3) Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri – Richardson has the highest motor of any player in possibly all of college football this past year. He’s not overly strong or big but he has great speed and is a disruptive force behind the line. He’ll be best suited as a 3-tech in a 4-3.
4) Kwann Short, DT, Purdue – Kwann short is the best pass rushing DT of this year’s group. He isn’t overly strong or fast but he’s relentless and very consistent in his ability to get to the passer. He’ll best be suited as a 3-4 DE/DT imo. Think Darnell Dockett.
5) Jonathan Jenkins, NT/DT, Georgia – Jenkins is a powerful bull rusher who can explode at the line and blow up interior linemen. He’s great in run stuffing and is incredibly strong. He is the ideal 3-4 Nose Tackle.
6) Jordan Hill, DT, Penn State – Hill is going to take a little work but he can turn into something special. He could be the second best DT in to come out of this draft behind Star. He’s great in the run defense and showed that he can hang with the big boys in the NFL. He’ll be good in a 4-3.
7) Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida – Floyd is a high motor guy who has good speed for his size. He’s not the best pass rusher nor the best run stuffer but he’s good at both. He will be best suited to play the 3-tech in a 4-3.
8) Sylvester Williams, DT, North Carolina – Williams has a nice combination of size and speed and is great at getting to the passer. He struggles more than the other top talent in run defense and sometimes seems as if he’s running on empty/doesn’t have the drive others do. He will best fit in a 4-3 scheme at either spot.
9) Jesse Williams, NT/DT, Alabama – Williams is primarily a run stuffer who won’t bring much to the table when it comes to getting to the passer. He’ll best fit in as a 3-4 NT but he’s probably not an every down player in the NFL.
10) Bennie Logan, DT, LSU – I don’t like Logan much. He struggled against the better talent in college football, most notably Alabama and their NFL caliber offensive line. He’s a little small but makes up for it with some speed and pass rush ability. Idk where I like him though in an NFL defensive front. If he can put on some weight or shine at the combine, things may change, but as of now, this is my overrated player for DTs.
11) Kwame Geathers, NT/DT, Georgia – Geathers is a monster. 6’6’’, 350 lbs of pure man. He has great strength and will fit very well into a 3-4 scheme as a NT but he still has plenty of room to improve and develop his skills.
