It's the greater fool theory in play. Your buddy made money because someone else was more foolish than he was and bought them from him.

These arbitrary ass valuations are driving the price up while there is actually no realized gains.

I know, that's why I'm not fucking around with it. It's going to end up a fad like fidget spinners and be worth jack shit one day once all places refuse to accept them.

I take it you guys aren't reading about why it's doing this? There's a really good chance it's a fad, but there is also a chance it isn't. I bet people who bought Google stock were laughed at a bunch too.

This is not a stock. This is not investing. This is gambling.

Or its the currency of the future and people aren't understanding what it's being used for and why it started gaining traction in the first place.

There's a reason 40% of them are owned by a very small minority of people. That alone should have you thinking. There isn't enough demand outside of that minority to buy 40% at the prices they are now.

I don't disagree with you that a small minority of people know what they're doing. But those aren't the people who are mortgaging their homes to invest their life savings after seeing a headline on msnbc.

This is financial darwinism. It will continue going up, until it doesn't. And when it doesn't it will come down hard, people will shit themselves trying to sell, and people will lose everything.

The only reason to own bitcoin is because you think someone dumber than you will pay you more for it. Again, greater fool theory.

What's your proof that it's going to stop? 2 years ago if someone said it would hit 10k they would be laughed out of the room. How do we know it isn't here to stay? It drops a lot and then it bounces back up even higher.

Refuse to be trolled. You know what a bubble is right? Bitcoin is a game of musical chairs where you get punched square in the face if you lose.

That didn't answer my question. How is fake currency on the internet any different than the fake currency the government hands to people?
