I have a co-worker here who bought a bitcoin at 6k, and sold it a few days ago for 16k. Now he has some lesser known cryptocurrencies but I'd wish he'd stfu about it because I don't want to hear about it. If he gets rich, great. I'm too lazy to learn about it and keep up with it lol.

It's the greater fool theory in play. Your buddy made money because someone else was more foolish than he was and bought them from him.

These arbitrary ass valuations are driving the price up while there is actually no realized gains.
