Amid surging violence, some Mexicans choose asylum over voting

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-mexico-election-asylum/amid-surging-violence-some-mexicans-choose-asylum-over-voting-idUSKBN1JR226

Quote
TIJUANA, Mexico (Reuters) - As millions of Mexicans lined up on Sunday to vote in the country’s largest election in history, others were huddled at the door to the United States, fleeing violence and bereft of hope that a new government could staunch it.

And... here comes the next batch.
I mean I feel sorry that people have to live in fear, etc. But all of them coming to the US isn't the answer.
They should ask the US to come in and kick some ass.

/e I think the US should set up a well defended consulate in Mexico. Then folks that wanted to immigrate or seek asylum could go there and apply.

well, companies not wanting to hire a woman in her late 20s without kids is... a discrimination of woman and economically totally sensible and understandable at the same. a shitty situation, but so far, I havent heard of a good solution for this issue - well, outside of high tax large welfare state countries like france or sweden...

anyways, this issue has nothing to do with your wife being an immigrant. an US-born woman in the same age would face the same problem.

that the companies dont want to hire a person whose immigration and work permit status is still up in the air is also understandable, dont you think? I know that this situation sucks for her/you, but why would american firms take on this trouble if they can find a similarly qualified american candidate for the job?
in the end, everything would be much easier and smoother if your wife found a company that sponsored her.

the things you say about the broken process in the immigration offices also suck, but I seriously dont think that those processes would be significantly less chaotic/time-consuming/broken without anti-immigrant sentiments.

all in all, you and your wife are in kind of a shitty situation, and I feel your frustration. but this doesnt automatically imply that your wife is being discriminated against.

Dude I just told you how she was denied because she is not a citizen and workers wouldn’t like the idea of a “foreigner” above them XD how is that not discrimination.
I wouldn’t say that being here legally and having all the legal papers is considered up in the air heh

U.S. judge orders release reviews for asylum seekers

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-immigration-ruling/u-s-judge-orders-release-reviews-for-asylum-seekers-idUSKBN1JT02G

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The U.S. government has been nearly uniformly detaining asylum seekers who were initially found to have credible fears of persecution instead of releasing them pending hearings on their individual cases as required, a federal judge ruled on Monday in a setback for the Trump administration.

What a shock. Trump intends to stick with his " no more catch and release" promise.

Immigration top issue for U.S. voters, economy a close second: Reuters/Ipsos poll

- However, Trump’s approval on his handling of immigration remains little changed since the beginning of the year, with 52 percent of registered voters saying in an ongoing Reuters/Ipsos poll that they disapprove of the way the president is handling immigration.

Americans are squarely divided along partisan lines on Trump’s stance on immigration: Eighty-one percent of Republicans said they approve of his handling of the issue while 84 percent of registered Democrats said they disapprove.

U.S. tells court migrant families may not be reunited by deadline

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-immigration-children/u-s-tells-court-migrant-families-may-not-be-reunited-by-deadline-idUSKBN1JW1W0

Quote
The U.S. Department of Justice asked the U.S. District Court in San Diego to clarify if it would be breaching the court’s order if families were reunited after the deadline due to delays in confirming parentage.

The U.S. government is scheduled to update the federal judge in the San Diego case on the reunification process at a hearing at noon PDT (1900 GMT) on Friday.

Government agencies are deploying field teams to swab cheeks of children and adults in government custody and using outside laboratories for DNA testing to verify family members, according to the government’s court papers.

If parentage cannot be confirmed, the government said, it may not meet the court-ordered deadline for reuniting more than 2,000 children with their parents.

Quote
The government, in its filing overnight, said the process could further be delayed by steps that were required before parents could be reconnected with their children. In addition to DNA testing to verify parentage, the government said it would need to perform a criminal history check, and has reviewed 300 adults with about 1,400 more to go.

The government also said it wanted to assure that parents could provide for the child’s physical and mental well-being.

As a result, some cases may require more time than allotted by the court, officials said, asking the court for guidance.

I'm glad they are doing things properly and not just releasing them.
I think a lot of the outcry over separating parents and children was more about forcing the govt. to have to go to a catch and release method, which wouldn't solve anything.

If they were actually interested in solving the problem they would target businesses. Everything else is just pandering.

They are working on that angle as well.

Judge largely rules for California in 'sanctuary state' fight

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-justice-immigration/judge-largely-rules-for-california-in-sanctuary-state-fight-idUSKBN1JV2XO

Quote
(Reuters) - California’s “sanctuary state” laws largely survived a legal attack by the Trump administration on Thursday after a federal judge declined to block state measures aimed at thwarting cooperation with Washington’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

But the judge, John Mendez of U.S. District Court in Sacramento, also rebuked lawmakers, saying that the immigration issue could not ultimately be settled in the courts and said elected leaders needed to put aside differences and forge legislation.

Quote
Mendez did, however, issue an injunction that bars California officials from imposing fines of up to $10,000 on employers who grant immigration officials access to a private workplace or to employment records.

It's a start.

wait, what? do I understand this correctly: the state of California wanted to fine private employers for cooperating with federal officials who are performing a task that is required and legally covered by federal law? lolwut? that's a blatant attack on the federalist way the american state is organized.

Trump needs to get Rocket Man to put them out of their misery with one of his tests.
