I've watched firsthand how normally rational and nice people have turned on their friends over the results of the election. It really saddens me so much.
I've had to disable seeing posts from one of my otherwise mature friends. We had a discussion on Wednesday night after the election and he was fairly distraught about the results. I made some fairly compelling statements and arguments with historical backing as to why this wasn't the end of the world. I made some comments about how to move forward in dealing with Trump supporters, Trump administration, and racists/bigots in general--something to the effect of "Hatred will only spawn more hatred. You need to fight hatred with love." Then I shared a nice personal story about a time I accomplished that.
Next time I log on Facebook, I'm greeted with this gem:

So I've been hearing a lot of people say, "oh, we just need to get out of this Us vs Them mentality, and I wanted to take a minute to explain why saying that to anyone with an oppressed identity is a massive pile of bullshit.
Would you have said that to POC back when violence erupted out against them during the racial integration of schools?
Would you have said that to POC when Tulsa was BURNT TO THE GROUND!?
Would you say that to LGBT youth who are sent against their will to conversion therapy?
Would you say that to any of the thousands of people who have experienced hate crimes for being Arabic, African American, Latino, LGBT? The death count is rising.
Why the hell are you saying that to the oppressed, and not the privileged?
Tl;dr you come across like this:
Oppressed: "They're killing us!"
You: "Well you really need to let go of this Us vs. Them Mentality so we can heal the nation."
10/10, would be passive aggressive again. At least have the balls to call me out, I'd have had some respect if he wanted to continue the discourse. But if you can't even do that, and you resort to raging about a message of love and compassion on the interwebs to score cool points with the other SJW's? Your mentality is why this nation is so shitty right now.
