also looked and sure in the US the 16th amendment was ratified in 1913, 1 year before the war. But income tax was drastically lower at that time & modern high income taxes were introduced to fund war efforts

Imagine giving away a quarter or higher of your paycheck to Monsanto or Raytheon so that they can poison and kill you with new technologies. Now replace those companies with big daddy government that does the same thing but with an accelerated pace.
