Apparently an issue with the 980 2TB's, which sucks because i have two being delivered tomorrow.

Anyways, hope you fixed your issue and if you didnt maybe the above link(s) will help?

I swapped MOBOs just in case. If it is a 980 issue I guess ill contact samsung about it when the time comes. Much easier to swap that then a MOBO.

sorry, i meant closest to CPU. your primary drive should always be the one closest to your CPU, so sounds like its configured correctly. SMART data should have some info in there if something went wrong or id still check seating

and if it was your samsung drive you can run the samsung magician tool and it tells you all the info, can also upgrade firmware on it

did you ever try running samsung magician and upgrading firmware like i mentioned here?

I did that but I only had the issue once and it never showed itself again but swapped still swapped the MOBO.

Also I was looking at the best RAM for my MOBO and the ram I have was #2 on the list. I still dont understand why specific slots run different speeds and dont allow the ram I have to run at its advertised speed.

Feel dumb that I dont understand but I just cant figure it out.

Found this quote about the ram maybe it helps a bit. Gl with the drive that's a weird one hopefully mobo fixes.

"Electrical signal integrity.

You send a 2GHz+ signal down the traces on a motherboard. How the traces are terminated greatly impacts the reflections in the signal, and therefore the stability.

Daisy chain vs t-topology are the two major memory trace types.

Daisy chain has slots 1+3 wired first, 2+4 last. You put the sticks in slots 2+4 so that the signals don't go past slots 1+3 and then bounce off the unterminated traces in slots 2+4.

T-topology has the traces split between slots 1+3 and 2+4 in equal length. Meaning that no matter which slots you use, the stability is the same.

If you don't know what type of trace layout your board uses, slots 2+4 should be used, and 99.9% of motherboard manuals indicate this. "
