yeah unfortunately there's not much troubleshooting you can do for that, if there is no SMART error it would make me lead to think its a motherboard issue. might want to update your bios to be sure there was no updates there.
a lot of people just don't push NVME drives in all the way when installing as well and it leads to intermittent issues as there isn't any mechanical latch or anything that holds them in place to verify proper seating

Usually when you insert them in the slot they stick up and you have to push them down to put the screw in to hold it down. But my NVMe just falls on its own. No resistance to it. cheap solution if it keeps happening would be getting a pcie4 m2 card expansion slot and just using the 2nd slot on your mobo

Not really no, no more wires needed just the card itself. Should still hit same speeds if it's the same bandwidth (you can check the bandwidth of the slot on your motherboard home page) I. E if your m2 card is pcie 4 then you would want a pcie 4 expansion slot

I decided to just exchange the Asus board for another. Want it working how it should only a month old. It's lame but an hour or two and everything will be switched over to the new one. Just a pain in the ass

expansion slots rarely do anything, by the time you get that far you'll want a whole new computer. its for sound, extra memory, im certain u know this....
