Why do boxers and football players risk cte?
It's what they love doing, literally no bodybuilder gets that big because they want to be healthy. They've accepted somewhere down the road that they're becoming a literal piece of art, and they'll get there doing whatever it takes. People will be screaming "YEAH BUDDY" for decades to come, and that's the impression that he wanted to leave.
Im critical towards pure boxing, too. And if American football carries a significant risk then i so believe a revision of rules could be in place. MMA and especially all kinds of wrestling/judo i find tolerable because i do like watching them and their risks are afaik lower but your counter-argument stands valid nevertheless. The pros also do that stuff for a living, and you could argue that theyre also being somewhat exploited by those who make money off them. This is especially the case with extreme sports sponsors like Red Bull who maintain their brand by funding adrenaline junkies.
I wouldnt go as far as to call them pieces of art... i understand the aesthetic appeal to a very limited audience, but you cant call it art. My problem is still the steroid use. I dont believe its justified anywhere. Natty aesthetics are honestly more aesthetic. We have anorexia for women, isnt reckless bodybuilding at the expense of your health sorta similar? I may be in the wrong forum criticizing this, but i genuinely believe its also good to question this issue in a civil manner
