9 ^ 3x = 81 ^ 2(x-1). You want to rewrite the bases to be the same. Notice they’re powers of 3.

(3 ^2) =( 3 ^ 4)^(2x-2)

3 = 3 ^ (8x-8)

Now that the bases are the same you can set the exponent equal.

6x = 8x-8

-2x = -8

X = 4

i think i may have written this wrong

9 = 81^2^(x-1)

does this change the answer ? sorry and I appreciate you taking the time to help

it makes perfect sense what you said actually I was struggling and trying to keep them both 9, but if you can clarify how to do this with the above question I would really appreciate this :D

No.

It’s a power of a power. You would still end up multiplying the powers on the right.

the 81 can be written as 9 x 9 or 9 squared.

this allows the 2 ( from the square) to be multiplied by the rest of the power. 4(x-1)

9 ^ 3x = 9 ^ 4(x-1)

The next step here is log of base 9, to remove the 9

log base 9 (9) = 3x

3x = 4(x-1)
3x = 4x -4
4 + 3x = 4x
4 = x

Sorry for not explaining all the steps... Post is a little old and was just seeing if I could solve it.
