Yeah I super torn here on what to do. Would love some insight. All prices are in Canadian below.
Option 1:
Ryzen 5800x3d - $500
Rog Strix B550-A - $200
Corsair 32GB 3600 DDR4 - $150
Total - $850
Option 2:
I5 12600k - $360
Rog Strix B660A - $270
Corsair 32GB 3600 DDR4 - $150
Total - $780
Option 3: 7000 Ryzen or raptor lake (assuming similar price to AMD)
Ryzen 7 7700x - $560
Mobo - $400 - $550
Corsair 32GB 5600 DDR5 - $300
Total - $1260 - $1410
I also won’t be over clocking the PC. Don’t know how to do it so not planning on it
Option #2 is solid if you're not overclocking, because the upgrade to 'k' from the 12400F base CPU has +4 more cores and +4 more threads (10/16 vs 6/12) and has a higher base ghz frequency (3.7ghz vs 2.5ghz) and is also priced well
13th Gen Raptor Lake has already released a price point and they will be near identical to 12th Gen pricing. Hopefully they stay true to that statement, only time will tell. Raptor Lake will also support DDR4 ram and Z690 boards, so allows users to save some money if upgrading from a previous build.
If you're just gaming, the i5 12600K is the best choice for price/performance ratio
e/ that extra $80 for the 5800x3d is a really good price too, if price isn't a massive issue i'd probably jump for the 5800x3d ~ both will have long term longevity but the 5800x3d is a touch above
