here is current system: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bVKVRk plus 2 Acer SB270 Bbix 27.0" 1920x1080 75 Hz Monitors

computer uses: work (about 15 chrome tabs), youtube, trackmania

been having issues lately with dropping frames in trackmania and having to run youtube at 480p to avoid buffering. Internet speed is fine as always, 60MB/s

What chip/gpu combo makes the most sense, price vs performance vs use? Not really looking to upgrade the mobo/ram, build is only 2 years old

I don't need top of the line to run this stuff so I don't want to just buy the best because I can, would be a waste

Appreciate the help

Or do you think that just upgrading the ryzen 3 3200g to the ryzen 5 5600g would be enough?

the 5600g seems to be a considerable upgrade

just ran a user benchmark. ran this with my typical work setup running (2 chrome windows with 9 total tabs running)

think i found my problem. just too old apparently. running in the 93% of all benchmarks but still only 13.4% score lol

that being said, just gonna get a 5600g. its on sale right now for like 135 so even if i have to upgrade again in a couple years, its no big deal

glad we had this talk! thanks guys!

Yeah the 5600G is a considerable upgrade, especially going from 3 series to 5 series and new gen. You're going from 4c/4t and 4.0ghz max boost to 6c/12t and 4.4ghz max boost. They've made massive improvements on their APU from your Vega 8 to current Radeon Vega 7.

Why not add a cheap gpu like a 1650 or the low profile varient?
Will get more performance than upgrading cpu again

On newegg 5600g is 164$ a 1650 super is 199$ but the performance difference is double when upgrading to the 1650 super
If you got extra 40 got for the gpu

Edit: the 6400 from amd is 150$ its 71% slower than the 1650s but is cheaper than buying a 5600g and u should still have performance improvement. Just not as much as the 1650s would give you.

This has valid points. I think for OP though he is running many tabs/youtube, so the CPU upgrade is valid there if he is having issues. If just gaming trackmania, indie games, etc, then the 5600G is very solid APU.

His Ryzen 3 3200g wouldn't be able to totally optimize the 1650 Super as it will run about a 18-20% bottleneck. Now that he has the 5600G if he ends up playing more demanding games like AAA titles, he could upgrade with a GTX 1660 Super/RTX 2060 down the road.

5600G puts him in a good upgrade path for better GPU, if he ever needs it.

the second and third post clearly show the benchmark that the apu is under performing not the cpu. hence the advice given.

maybe look into a fresh windows installation or look into ur hardware thermals as the 3200g should be able to run yt no problem. your cpu could be thermal throttling hence the poor performance

Odd that it's only happening recently, after owning for 2 years. Maybe wasn't multitasking/gaming like this previously? Either way if it's a new trend just recently occurring, makes me think the CPU can't keep up to the multi applications+gaming simultaneously along with the weak 2gb Vega 8 APU.

Your advice is very solid and the 1650 super with 3 3200g is the most cost effective solution. I just see an upgrade path with his recent purchase that is also justifiable, potentially way down the road if he sees fit.

OP, how is the 5600G performing? Did you make a purchase yet?
