my suggestion would be to remove the ability to post a back to back reply on the same thread if 4 hours haven't passed (or w/e the bump rule time is according to subforum)
the same way you need to wait 30 seconds to post a new reply (you get that red warning message)

i think this would be helpful for TAs and TMs as they won't need to focus on that anymore
and it would make it more fair for those who actually respect the bump rule

that doesnt prevent early bumps after someone else posted an offer though and if anything will lead to people making duplicate threads

the early bump rule prohibits back to back posts in the same thread within 4 hours
if someone else posts an offer, its not an early bump to reply

even if so, search filters are already clogged up of people making exactly the same ft threads over and over again
this will only increase the flood of threads to the point of search filter being pretty much unusable

You can actually filter this out as well. Create an alert that can detect yourself selling the same item in two different threads within 4 hours.

I actually like OP’s suggestion, there isn’t enough staff to correct the thousands of early bump violations that occur on a daily basis, I find that most aren’t even reported.

I vote yes, prevent back to back posting within a 4 hour period on trade forums.

Sure there are cons to this, and slight inconveniences, but the pros significantly outweigh the cons.

There’s already filters that detects the word “free” in trade topics and prevents you from posting, sure this causes inconveniences but it’s been working pretty well for the most part. I would like to see a pilot being ran with the back to back 4 hour post prevention.

d2jsp uses an honor system, and trusted status. If people sneak around early bumps or other site rules it only demonstrates their character.

If we systematically approach this problem, people will game the system. Hey pete, toss me a fake c/o so I can then wait 20 minutes and say c/o and get two free bumps. Then 1 hour later, retract your offer, so I can reply again. Bumps every hour!

Its the same thing, and I'd report any early bump and leave it up to the trade mods

having friends tossing fake offers represents a much smaller portion of early bumps
the goal is not to eliminate it all, because it would be nearly impossible
having a system prevention to posting back 2 back within 4 hours will stop the big majority of early bumps imho.


reporting works at times, but if the seller finds a buyer by early bumping, then edits his first post to "closed" or "sold thread closed", that most likely won't get closed
you're also limited to 3 reports until you need to wait before reporting more
