Inspired by Diamondhands' thread.

Personally, I think online dating can work in theory and I don't doubt it has worked for some people, however, generally I think it's not a very practical way to find a serious relationship. I mean, you would have to move to be with them to see if you are truly compatible, but uprooting your entire life for someone you might or might not like sounds like a very big gamble. Unless you happen to live closeby, but this doesn't happen too frequently.

I also dislike the fact that you don't get to interact with them IRL until much later in your relationship (if you meet up at all). I find that there can usually be a huge discrepancy between how someone is online and what they are actually like in real life. I don't want to talk to someone online for a long time, get attached, and then find out he's not really my type. It would be a huge waste of time and having developed feelings that you have to squelch simply sucks.

Your thoughts?

I met a couple of friends from the internet in my teens. Very different in real life (I was actually scared to meet people. I usually attended to make sure my friends didn't get gang raped).
I've never been one for internet dating. It's not my bag, baby.

Even with the local online dating things... I don't know. Not for me. I've always said to my friends and family that if they ever find out I've joined Tinder to shoot me now, because I've lost my damn mind!

Haha, that's a good way of putting it.

I met the girl I'm with online over a year ago, she flew over to meet me the first time, stayed for a month, flew back, then drove back like a month later, and we camped out all summer, then we drove 1200miles back to her place back in October... We've been doing alright, me stressing about changing jobs and finding another place to work here has been the biggest stressor, currently applying for WFH jobs, but they don't like my felony charge...

My experience was good. I was quite active on all the major dating apps. Last april, I randomly got a match on tinder. Setup a date, we clicked, and everything snowballed.

I did have one "date" a few weeks before that with a girl from hinge. I believe she was a catfish though, as her profile pics didn't match at all. She even said "oh my pics are several years old, just haven't updated them".

Yea.

This further reinforces my point. Even when you are lucky enough that your online relationship works out, you still have a lot of obstacles to overcome. Finding a new job isn't easy and it will be even more difficult if your old job is very good and not easily replaced. Not to mention you have to say good-bye to your family and friends.

Just more things against online dating.
