I think dress codes are fine.
We have some pretty nice school uniforms in our country , well 100% of our government and private schools have uniforms. The only schools that allows you to wear non uniforms are some international schools.
Even schools in England have school uniforms and dress codes. I am sure some schools in the States have them as well.
