When you load into the game, you have a rectangle box on the bottom right corner. You tap it, it shows you 9 Pokemon nearby. If you see a circle with a picture in it, it shows you where the Pokemon is at. You press on it then press on the 3 footprints, and it will show where that Pokemon and Pokestop is in your area.
If you tap on the rectangle box on the bottom right corner and it shows you Pokemon with a green grass picture, this means there are zero Pokestops in your area. The Pokemon will be impossible to find.
