hello, ive been pretty tempted to build a new computer and sell my old one to a friend for a good price (its a good last gen pc)

ive been checking gpu lately and ive seen the prices going back to be arround msrp

what i wonder is that im debating between a 3080 or a 3080 ti (the 3080 ti is arround 300 cad more than the 3080)
is it worth paying the extra money for the 3080 ti, should i wait for the new generation of cards to come out? or should i just buy the regular 3080 and build arround it

12% Raw Performance Difference.
Better Video Ram on the TI.
Helps Keep Temps lower.

Definitely worth the Extra.

Personally for that price, you would be better just getting the 3090TI for a small amount more.

EVGA Brand is going to be the Best, Fallowed by MSI > Asus - Avoid all other brands.

The 3090ti is 799 more right now at Best Buy than the 3080ti. Versus has it as Auros Master > EVGA FTW > everything else. The EVGA is technically .12% faster, but it also costs another $200. EVGA = better customer service, Gigabyte = sweet LCD screen :P

really depends on resolution to be honest - if your gaming at 4k definitely get the 3080Ti

If at 1440p I would settle for the 3080 and save a bit of money.

If at 1080p would settle even lower 3060Ti/3070.

agreed but also depends on desired fps, games and settings typically used

maxed out settings arent really needed cause you cant tell the difference but you see it lower your fps

A raspberry Pi is capable of 4k

Gaming in 4k you want at least a 3080

As far as OPs question, pick a resolution and type of game (4k League vs 4k Elden Ring are very different requirements). Then set a budget for your whole build that makes sense to you. Groceries and gas have gone up, if you have a mortgage your housing costs are going up. If you're even considering 3080 vs 3080ti, budget matters to you. When you set a budget for your whole build, allocate 30-50% of that towards GPU and you'll likely land on a specific card

I've owned all these cards they all played 4k max settings very well. 3080ti is overkill an you shouldn't consider anything over a 3080 unless you are in content creation or using your computer as a workstation. there is nothing wrong with wanting more power but if all you are doing is gaming then a 3080ti is unnecessary in my opinion.

I'm curious what games and what you consider "very well."

I have a friend who plays warzone on a 3090+ryzen 9 build I did for him and his framerate frequently dips below 100fps. You could argue that it's still playing "very well" but it's noticeable dips and potentially disruptive in competitive shooters
