I was going to add more RAM, until I discovered my motherboard can only handle 16Gb. Which I already have. Disaster.

So I'm looking to purchase a motherboard + 32gb or 64gb RAM + upgrade the CPU.
I also looked up prices of stronger processors, so may aswell get that upgraded too.

Current -

intel i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz, 3101 Mhz, 4 Core(s)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030

I only have a basic knowledge of hardware so I'm looking for any advice, or ideally particular models that would be a good fit. Thanks :)

Your cpu will bottle neck with more ram. I think you should get a motherboard, cpu and graphics card. The asrock motherboards are my favorite of the ones I have tried.

If you looking for a cheap upgrade on motherboard and cpu try this.

- ASRock B450M PRO4 R2.0 AM4 AMD Promontory B450 SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX AMD Motherboard (newegg for 79.99)
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600X - Ryzen 5 5000 Series Vermeer (Zen 3) 6-Core 3.7 GHz Socket AM4 65W Desktop Processor - 100-100000065BOX (newegg for 229.99)
- G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) AMD 3000 Compatible Intel XMP 2.0 Desktop Memory F4-3200C16D-32GTZR (newegg for 149.99)

With most motherboards you will find bottle neck while using more than 2 ram slots. If you use newegg.com make sure you toggle the "sold by newegg.com" switch
