a new PM is an unread PM, but an unread PM may not necessarily be a new PM.

if a theme's css is not differentiating between bold and unbolded as denny mentioned, it should be fixed. because jsp bolds the unread PM titles to make them stand out for that very reason

jsp has been using the new PM number in the header for a while now (i wanna say over a decade?).

changing it now could confuse the users who think "oh hey, I got 5 new and unread PMs!". now after they marked 3 as unread, and get 5 new messages: "oh hey, I got 8 "new PMs" but wait, only 5 are actually new, and 3 are just my old unreads!"
