Looking for a new PC Build ( Desktop )

I was wondering what was the most important component to run 8 D2R Clients on 1 PC. Recently played on my laptop (Specs Below) and I can only run 2 Clients. It gets really hot. When
I try to run 3 it shuts down. I even tried running 2 clients on my other laptop (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-victus-16-1-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3050-256gb-ssd/6462337.p?skuId=6462337)
with 8GM of RAM and its shuts down. So really U need 8GB per instance of D2R.

1) CPU OR RAM? Unlike regular D2, D2R Takes a huge amount of RAM to run 1 client. 4700MB of RAM for 1 instance.

2) Can 1 CPU even handle 8 D2R Clients? Because I was thinking I might go with 64GB sticks of Ram.

3) 50FG to see your 8 D2R PC Build Specs. Let me know!

Currently have this Laptop

ram + cpu most intensive
with 3 clients i use 18gb ram, 25% of my 3080, and about 50% of my cpu (3900x overclocked pretty hard). 6 is probably a more realistic amount for a feasible price point.

could probably do 6 clients with a 3070 (or equiv), 3900x, and 32gb would be cutting it close, probably want at least 40gb of ram for overhead

also depends if you're using a vm or no vm

1) both. Ram is necessary, CPU could probably be lesser if you limit performance of all clients except one at a time. I'm going to say 32gb of 3600hz RAM should be sufficient but if you have the budget for it, go higher

2) modern CPUs go up to 12-16core, 8 clients shouldn't be a problem

3) built this for a buddy recently

It should run 8 clients no problem but I'll give you some changes for a more practical build. You could spend less on case, GPU, and motherboard. The above build was made to be compact, had a $5k budget (cdn $) and had a few MOBO feature requests, those parts are overkill for your needs. Your MOBO could be anything with power for the CPU, your GPU could easily be 3070 but I'd recommend the 3080 depending on budget, case is a personal preference but $50-$100USD gets you a great case. With the money saved you could leave it at that or upgrade RAM (more GB) and/or CPU ( 5950x has 16 cores).

Don't use a laptop. Desktop PCs will be far less hindered by thermal throttling than the exact same parts in a laptop

Let me know if you have any questions!

**Edit: if you let me know your budget I could probably put together a parts list that fits your needs specifically

Run all your clients in legacy mode at 640x480 and see if it improves.

This is my PC, I did not build for D2R but I have no doubt I can run 20-30 clients if needed. FWIW Mine is a relatively high budget PC which you don't need to run D2R (I built as a workstation + gaming PC).

FWIW My Surface 2017 which has garbage integrated video can run D2R in legacy, but struggles to run D2R in normal; if you want to multiclient, reducing resources consumed per application should be your first task, next would be to figure out where you are capped in hardware.

For your scenario, you're temperature capped (laptop heat), which leads to thermal throttling and shutting down because the CPU is pretty much pinned to 100% when you're loading multiple clients, then you're hitting a DRAM cap because you have multiple clients, then you also hit the VRAM cap because you're loading all the textures for the multiple clients into VRAM.
