if you are gaming at 1440p and above or plan to get whatever cpu that suits ya
if you need more cores for multi tasking then look into amd, we will see 3d cache version later this yr which should boost them back past intel's currrent gen all around
if you want something that works out of the box pretty much with little work and perform great then look at intel but amd is almost there where you dont have to worry about anything
12th gen does need win 11 for its cpu scheduler for e and p cores to work right

intels 10th and 11th gen < amd 5k
intels 12th gen > amd 5k for most part
this link includes amd fix for windows 11
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i9-12900k-alder-lake-12th-gen/23.html

just remember if win 11 is needed for intels 12th gen you better believe their issues would be fixed fast considering how much influence intel has on microsoft

you are very hopeful and willing to put in the effort required to make the new specs work

i am more interested in relatively high efficiency but not at the cost of a system that requires tinkering every now because of early adoption

What you listed is more than enough.

The reason why you split drives is so if one dies you only have to be concerned about 1 thing. Also in the before-days, SSDs were more expensive and much smaller. Nowadays you can yolo and stash everything on 1 drive if you don't care about data loss.

You'll be fine with 32 GB ram unless you do video editing or some crazy heavy load stuff. Brands don't really matter, they're mostly made by a single company, the brands just add color/heatsinks for style.

As for fans, I'd recommend getting all of a single brand so it's easier to match if one fails.

ok cool, ya that's kinda the way it seems to be going for the storage drives...a 2tb ssd is plenty fast and can handle both the os and all games/apps ect..
i think the corsair vengeance ram Xet recommended will def do the trick 32gbs and ya this pc isnt really for editing..more browsing/listening to music while having a game running

and the fans are all made by Noctua so should be good there too
thanks for the input/reassurance man :]

and tbh im probably gonna skip out on the 3060 gpu and use my 1080 ti in my current computer as a temp till there is more higher quality ones in stock
they say the 3060 is more just a recycled model that only made due to shortages caused by the pandemic...a good card but not much better than a 1080 ti apparently

1080TI is more than fine; I'm running a RTX 2070 myself which equals a 1080 roughly. If you're trying to run the latest AAA games at max then it'll struggle, otherwise you're fine.

for sure, any game i do play i usually turn down the settings just to make the game run as smooth as possible regardless of my comps specs anyway..so, good to hear

With your build using 12900K, I do not recommend a traditional heat sink and fan. The heat that it can give off when it's at constant max speed makes me uncomfortable like you're in a hot, sweaty room.

I recommend an AIO cooler, at least 240mm, when using 12900K.

ok and after some more thinking..im gonna stick to what you guys were recommending...looks like a lot more potential effort for the efficiency than i would like to put in haha

think this maybe the finished product :O
put in a newer z590 motherboard

Why are you using Noctua's P series? Those are for static pressure.

Go for the A series which is for all-around use scenaro.

Their F series is for airflow.
