hey so i have an L shape desk with three monitors going around it.

my cat used to stare at me for long periods of time on the floor for some reason so recently i put a little blanket on the left side of the desk for the monitor that i dont use very much.

anyways since hes been sitting there hes seen the mouse cursor and is just so enthralled by this little cursor or when I type. He's sitting watching me type right now.

The problem is sometimes he trys to like pull the monitor down to get inside of it I guess, or he keeps investigating the keyboard and mouse when I'm gone. he just gradually gets closer and closer and more in the way and he doesn't let me push him back to where hes supposed to be sitting. I can't get him to stay off the table- i put him down and he just comes back up immediately. I tried it yesterday and i gave up after the 10th time and put him outside of the room.

How do I get him to stop without making the animal afraid or hate me?

If you mean pitbulls and chihuahuas, I understand.

more than that, think about any time youve been annoyed about a random dog, and think about how many random cats have annoyed you and the dogs 100% outnumber the cats.

they will learn if its to get food or something they like. if its an action that doesnt make sense- like just rolling over randomly- it takes forever. but if its like some kind of barricade to keep them out of the cuppboards or something they'll figure it out eventually. faster than dogs. my cat learned how to open the bathroom door and he's trying to figure out how the mouse and keyboard make the cursor move when im not around but hes just smelling it its not like hes a gamer or something.

Cats in general can be tricky, and this sound like an extra tricky problem on top of that. I have 2 ideas. 1) Maybe try playing with them more to get more energy out so they wont want to go after the computer mouse. 2) Give him something more entertaining. Like "cat tv" which could literally be a cat channel on another tv/monitor, a bird feeder or something outside of a window for them to look at, or (something I wouldn't normally suggest but in this case who knows) one of those self moving laser pointer things. Other things that might keep your cat busy is some kind of pet puzzles or toys that you hide treats in and they have to figure out how to get their snack out.

It sounds like you have a smart, high energy kitty. I understand how difficult it is to deal with a smart cat (mine figured out how to open doors too), luckily mine is fairly low energy most of the time though. You might need to help get some of their energy out more. To cats even watching things move around takes energy, like they are planning their move and stuff. So sounds like he's using the cursor to watch like prey because they still have a lot of energy. IDK if you have heard of Jackson Galaxy, but he has some youtube videos and stuff that might help give some other ideas to for the "cat tv" idea.
