Alt right is defined as basically rejecting mainstream media ideas and somehow being loosely connected to white supremacy.

Pretty much means people who second guess the mainstream narrative. They threw white supremacy in there to make sure everybody knows they are bad.

So basically it is a defense mechanism used by people that cannot defend their ideas with concrete facts.
