what race do you play? liquipedia brood war section matchup meta section with all build orders is something of a bible for the game.
https://liquipedia.net/starcraft/Portal:Beginners/Strategyhttps://liquipedia.net/starcraft/Terran_Strategyhttps://liquipedia.net/starcraft/Protoss_Strategyhttps://liquipedia.net/starcraft/Zerg_Strategyme and two friends (north east NA) play each other seriously on competitive settings for years now. i met them playing WoL in 2011 and now we've long quit SC2 (david kim tire iron rape) but brood war is still the shit. if you want to play 1v1s and improve with us we'll help. we play current and old official maps from the ladder.
i play zerg, my buds one's terran other's toss. we have a near complete understanding between the three of us of the early/mid/endgame for every single matchup. we pigeon-hole ourselves build wise and practice mostly common macro play or the most effective cheeses, but anything goes. we do like to fuck with each other.
we're not amazing, eat supply blocks now and again, make huge blunders, but we've all gotten to a point where the pace of the play makes broodwar much more addictive, especially wanting to keep going re. in a short hectic game we may have 250apm, in a long, extra-peaceful game maybe 140. apm comes real quick after you master the build flow into mid, then endgame.
feel free to hmu if you ever wanna game. we got discords. we're in a TBC raiding guild / also playing a lot of D2:R hardcore online with them.
if you are looking for more depth and quality of detail for the core things, and don't want to read the Portal:Beginners on liquipedia, dive right into day9's video content
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgmCLtUkEutKY8IlwyVCUFoRtgQe3LCf1he speaks quickly and well, doesn't miss anything, and has everything from hotkey setup, unit abilities / building familiarity / basic concepts micro vs. macro / time management, up through analysis of old South Korean OSL finals to break down what "perfectly played" matchups may look like - be it mirror (TvT,ZvZ,PvP) or not. also all the micro tricks that aren't that hard (or that fun) to learn.
at the end of the day one of the best ways to practice will be to make sure you can read the build orders you want to use on liquipedia, and then if you have a second monitor leave them up while you play.
