That shield is Rhyme for my higher mf setup for cbf. On my normal/leveling setup I use a raven currently until I can get a cham rune. It doesn't freeze enough bodies to really matter to me overall, but I would definitely prefer no cold damage.
I did ubers on P1 softcore lol, like I said in the OP there are going to be times where I'm drinking and up way too late so I didn't want to do my grail (at least my first one) on HC P8, that just sounded way less efficient to me, as I'd have to change my playstyle and go slower.
I think a holy grail and level 99 is enough for my first attempt at one of these, hardcore will be my next adventure when I'm done with this one :P
Singer barbs are definitely a good option for a lot of areas, and extremely safe for HC compared to other barb builds imo. Did you have War Cry in mind or something else?
I went ahead and tried singer. Its fun an unique, but I wasn't feeling the game play. For HC p8, it also takes a bit longer than I'd like for Merc to kill bosses, but I expected that. Plays more like a ce Necro except single monster. For P1 the pace makes it more enjoyable because faster kills. I also did not feel very safe with singer. I had huge Hp, but wc has small range and sometimes archers wander in while amped and casting wc. No DR outside of shako and enigma.
I gave the pitzerker a go and I'm not gonna lie, I'm hooked. Its fast and fun, and with SS on grief side, feels very safe. I have to be a bit more careful so I don't telestomp the boss which definitely slows down runs, but not a ton. I've taken baba from 89-91.5 like this in pits. Far from effecient leveling but I'm really looking for dweb while my chats level so I shouldn't be too greedy lol.
How's your baba coming along?
