I tried suggesting to blizzard on their forums before d2r was launched, about bonus experience and maybe bonus items if whole areas, acts or even difficulties was cleared in the same game. Imagine how fun that would be! And great way to build experience.

That's something to consider, but how difficult can it be? Just an experience bonus. And maybe gold, item or rune bonuses too. All different from sc and hc.

Nephalem Valor was a 5-tiered buff you acquired after killing elite packs if I remember well.
