Currently have an i7 8700k, 3060, 16gb 3600mh ddr4 ram. Just ordered another 16gb to see if that helps at all. Any suggestions? Should I upgrade to a i9?

this is a you need help thinking it through kind of thing, but the variables that matter are how much you value fixing the lag vs the dollar amount that you see for ryzen + mobo. its gonna be that dollar amount for fixing that, because yes a good ryzen CPU should be a good enough improvement to stream things noticeably better. you could also reinstall your OS just for an easy way to make sure you don't just have a bogged down windows installation.

I went ahead and ordered a Ryzen 7 5800x and a aorus x570 elite mobo also picking up 2x16gb of ddr4 3600mhz c16 ram

Spent all that extra money when you should have gotten something better than a 3060

Did you view your resource monitor usage, before ordering all those parts? Did the RAM peak or CPU peak?

In my situation, gaming when streaming was laggy because of RAM (I had multiple windows open, namely Firefox tabs).

Also, you should be able to change your streaming bitrate/encoding so that it's a bit easier on your computer overall.

Ram was up there a little bit so I did get more ram and didn’t check cpu honestly I’ve always wanted to switch to Ryzen anyways because everything I’ve been told is it’s better for gaming/streaming combined. Thoughts? Thoughts on the stuff I ordered?

From my experience, my RAM was up there too (again, I had a bunch of windows open). I upgraded from 16GB to 32GB and my stream quality was choppy, not my games, which was some improvement. I had to change my streaming bitrate/encoding to get my stream less choppy.

Do I think I could've kept 16GB and just change my streaming bitrate/encoding to be less choppy on both games and stream? Yes...but I'm too lazy to open up my case, stick in 16GB, and test it out again.
