I think there are ways to balance d2 and d3. The loot system in D2 makes it pretty difficult to get anywhere good on your own, so you need trading. Player 2 player is better than Auction house, but ideally I would like to see a slight increase in loot so you don't have to run 10k baal runs to get the gear you need.
