Runescspe is/was one of the most grindiest mmo out there in my opinion for full completion. Can't really speak too much on other mmo's as I didn't play them, but some skills would require around 200 hours to max.

I would also say that most of us started when we were kids and dumped in 6h nights easily. With runescape progression is really determined by how long and how often you play. No other way about it.

Only game I know that requires as much time is maybe eve online. Runescape is a lifestyle.. not a game.

You could do AFK slayer tasks with slayer if you get a high enough prayer level

I personally cheated most of my 99's with the most afk means available to me. with the exception of range and magic once I hit mm2 caves.
I didn't use any public scripts or bot clients.

Cheated Agility first when I really didn't care about my account.
Cheated melee stats at bandits and then NMZ
My prayer cheat at alters in POH's was slick
Cheated smithing gold ore at blast furnance
Cheated cooking easy and fast with wines
cheated crafting unpowered orbs was the cheapest 99 not counting agility

Could somewhat cheat fletching but it's stupid and costs like 130m

Skills that I don't think can really be cheated are thieving and construction.
All of this assumes you are willing to lose your account though, once you get over that hurdle its fun until its done.

If you're doing some efficient stuff like fishing for example. Barb fishing while watching Netflix it doesn't feel like that much if a grind but 2 or 3 shows later you've now done 2 ish hours of fishing at 50k xp/h
Not much but every night you do it, now you're at like 700k xp in a week.
