Ihey guys, I bought some used parts and built them. However, I'm receiving a CPU temp warning from bios.

My question is should I try and reset the heatsink? It is just a stock Intel cooler. Maybe I Shoukd just buy an aftermarket cooler instead?

Please any insight would be appreciated.

Which CPU is it and what's the CPU cooler? Need specifics here.

Sorry of course that would be fitting to include

it is an Intel Core i5-4570 and the stock intel cooler on it

I have ordered an aftermarket cooler to see if that will assist.

Should i pull if from the motherboard and clean the socket etc as well?

Installing a better CPU cooler is not a bad idea.

But if you're not trying to spend much money, perhaps a good cleaning to all the fans may change its performance. I'm just suggesting this because the i5 4570 is old and I'm not sure how long ago you last cleaned your PC.

As to installing a new CPU cooler, no, you don't need to pull the CPU out from its socket. You do need to carefully clean the CPU top where the thermal paste was applied. I say carefully because you don't want to have it run off and make a mess for more cleaning.

The socket doesn't need to be clean if there's good contact between the CPU pins and its socket. Dust could be inside the socket but very unlikely and a simple cleaning should suffice if there is dust.
