what happens after the screen goes black? does it go back to normal or do you have to restart your pc?

instinct tells me its your graphics card or overheating issue.

list your specs
processor/mobo/gpu/ram/psu

do you have integrated?
does this only happen when gaming?
do you have another video cable and tv/monitor to test it on?
do you monitor your gpu and cpu temps while gaming? if so what are the average temps when idle/under load.

theres a windows event viewer that could be of help
open that up, go to windows protocols and then system and look for errors there
a shot in the dark but worth a try: i have had the same issue as you, not only related to gaming however but also in firefox or when doing nothing
my problem was one of the ram sticks had a loose connection. i took both out, cleaned them with a tissue and put them back in firmly, since then it hasnt happened again
but tbh it could be a lot of things

is this pre built dell xps 8900 2015ish?
prolly need new/ better power supply thats a oem one its prolly gona die. Also id double check your ram configuration and its compatibility if you put new ram sticks in. but also try to remove ur graphics card and run your computer on integrated graphics and see if the problem occurs. if the problem doesnt happen with ur gpu removed then its most certainly your gpu or psu not being good enough.
also what os are you running?

there are many system monitor software you can download for free. nzxt cam is one i use also coretemp but its only for processor. msi afterburner is another popular one.

It is a 2015 pre built XPS
I run windows 10

I’ll buy a new PSU tomorrow should I upgrade more wattage?

i havent done any hardware upgrades other than the ram but they put that in 2015 when it was built.
should i still check ram ?

i can buy a new GPU if thats the case aswell ive been looking into it recently actually.
