the boots cannot be kept upgraded that s why the crash occurs at all . player is trying to generate an item which is undefined according to the itemlist in d2 .
item is upgraded , server checks if item exists in itemlist -> false -> crash+rollback -> player/s roll back to the most recent game-save aka to some point where they haven t upgraded the item .
( item is old 08 and blizz didn t bother or forgot to add its other versions to the itemlist , thus undefined )
in earlier versions (< 2019 ) their checks were better because it was : 50 % server crash + item poofs , 50 % server crash + item doesn t poof
today ? as we see item doesn t poof at all anymore , lol
I lost a pair of prelods couple years ago and havent dared to upg any of em since. And people "in the know" knew this, thus why they prefered buying prelods alrdy upgraded to 95-118str (desynch str buggable).
So question is, WHEN did it stop working upgrading prelods/prepatch boots (rares?) And why (how)? I suspect it would likely be related to when they patched ith/hybrid method right
Also, what was the rationale of having the item poof? Or was that simply a result from 50% rollback on server amd 50% simple crash w/o rollback and item invalid thus poof?
